In 2002, Joachim Munganga founded SOPACDI as a means to bridge ethnic strife in the war-torn DRC. From inception, SOPACDI's aim has been to bridge ethnic groups and to produce the highest quality coffee possible. With more than 5,200 farmers in the co-op now, 20% are women. Many are widows who lost their husbands as they tried to smuggle and barter coffee into Rwanda and the Fair Trade Premiums have been used to support them.
